Compact Model Council Elects New Officers
Industry Alliance Formed to Tackle Standardization of Compact Model Formulations Completes its 3rd Year
Arlington, Virginia, -- June 15, 1998 -- The Electronic Information Group of Electronics Industry Alliance (EIA) announced today new officers for its Compact Model Council (CMC) Division. Based upon elections held on May 15 during its bi-annual meeting held in conjunction with CICC in Santa Clara, CA, Britt Brooks (TI) was elected Chairman, Bernd Lemaitre (Siemens) elected Vice-Chairman, Joe Watts (IBM) elected Secretary and Bob Daniels (Avant!) was elected Treasurer. The new structure will allow four CMC representatives to participate in the administration, replacing the previous 2 co-chair positions held by Bhaskar Gadepally and Britt Brooks.
Just completing its 3rd year, The Compact Model Council consists of Semiconductor Companies and CAD Suppliers who exist to promote the international, nonexclusive standardization of compact model formulations, the model interfaces and their availability in circuit simulators. The current scope is:
* Promote BSIM3v3 from UC Berkeley as the first compact MOSFET model to be
standardized,
* Promote application program interface (API) kit standardization for compact models, and
* Standardize MOSFET testing process.
Members of the CMC include: Advanced Micro Devices, Analog Devices, Analogy, Avant!, Berkeley Technology Associates, Cadence, Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Lucent Technologies, Mentor Graphics, Motorola, National Semiconductor, NEC, Philips, Rockwell, Siemens, Silvaco International, Texas Instruments, and Technology Modeling Associates. Groups monitoring the CMC activities are: FSA, NIST and SEMATECH.
The new officers bring to Compact Model Council years of pertinent industry experience and as such are qualified to lead the organization to success:

Britt Brooks is a Member of Technical Staff at Texas Instruments (TI) and has been working in compact modeling for 5 years. He was previously co-chair of the CMC and chose the EIA as a home for the CMC after two years of SEMATECH affiliation. Britt is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
Bernd Lemaitre was born in Essen, Germany, on September 16, 1958. He received the Diploma degree in Physics from Technical University Darmstadt, Germany in 1985 in the Institute for Nuclear Physics and the Doctor degree in Electronics from the University of Bundeswehr Munich, Germany in 1992. He jointed Siemens AG, Semiconductor Division, Munich Germany in 1985 and worked in the area of CAD, technology development, device modeling and characterization. Now he is currently working as a leader of a simulation group for device modeling and process characterization.
Josef Watts "Joe" is an advisory engineer at IBM Microelectronics. He has worked in the semiconductor industry for 19 years including quality, reliability, digital circuit design and compact model and ASIC timing rule verification. He has been involved in compact model generation for 3 years. He received a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1995, an AM from Dartmouth College in 1987 and a BS from University of Wisconsin in 1975.
Bob Daniels heads the Hspice R&D group at Avant!. Previously he was with Anagram Inc. (1996), Boeing (1988-96), and Honeywell(1984-88) working in the areas of semiconductor device, process, and model R&D. He was adjunct professor at the University of Washington (1991-96). He received a Ph.D. in Physics (1984) and BS degrees in Mathematics (1979) and Physics(1979) from the University of Wisconsin.
About CMC
The Compact Model Council (CMC) was formed from the SEMATECH sponsored Compact Model Workshop attendees to address the industry wide need for better compact models to address future technologies. Workshops have been held since March of 1995. The Council resides under the Design Automation Division of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA).
